Abstract
The Indian sports industry has experienced significant growth over the past two decades, evolving into a commercially vibrant sector driven by professional leagues, broadcasting rights, sponsorships, and digital platforms. While this expansion has enhanced the economic and cultural significance of sports, it has also given rise to complex legal challenges that demand effective regulatory oversight. This article examines the major legal issues confronting India's sports industry, including match-fixing, doping violations, intellectual property rights disputes, governance concerns, and athlete protection. It analyzes how courts, regulatory authorities, and sports governing bodies have responded to these challenges through disciplinary mechanisms and legal interventions. The discussion highlights notable cases involving corruption in sports, anti-doping enforcement, and trademark protection, illustrating the growing intersection between law and sports administration. The article further emphasizes the need for a comprehensive and coherent legal framework to ensure transparency, accountability, fair competition, and the protection of stakeholders' rights. It concludes that as sports continue to expand as a commercial enterprise, strengthening India's sports law regime is essential to balance commercial interests with sporting integrity and justice.
