Abstract

The Internet of Things (IoT) has revolutionized the way people interact with technology by enabling everyday devices to communicate and exchange data over the internet. While IoT offers remarkable benefits in sectors such as healthcare, transportation, agriculture, and smart cities, it also raises critical legal concerns relating to data privacy, cybersecurity, consumer protection, and liability. This article examines the concept and applications of IoT, analyses the legal and regulatory challenges surrounding its deployment, and discusses the Indian legal framework with reference to the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, the Information Technology Act, 2000, and relevant judicial decisions. It concludes that a balanced legal framework is essential to ensure that technological innovation progresses alongside privacy, security, and accountability.
