Abstract

Restrictive birthright citizenship laws abroad, combined with India’s single citizenship policy, put many children of the Indian diaspora at risk of statelessness and limited legal rights. India’s Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) status offers partial benefits but not full citizenship/ This paper highlights the need for India to reform citizenship policies, to protect and support social inclusion, and strengthen global ties with the Indian community.
