Trademark registration is a crucial step towards legitimising your brand and marking your claim in a competitive environment. The process sets you apart from your counterparts and is an effective way to build your consumer base. This article explores Sections 9 and 11 of the Trademarks Act1 respectively, providing a nuanced understanding of the absolute and relative grounds for refusal with regard to trademark registration.
