Abstract

Child rights constitute an essential component of human rights, ensuring every child’s right to survival, development, protection, and participation. In India, constitutional guarantees, international commitments under the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC), and various legislative measures establish a comprehensive framework for safeguarding children. However, persistent challenges, including child labour, trafficking, child marriage, abuse, gender discrimination, and unequal access to education, continue to undermine effective implementation. This article examines the constitutional and statutory framework governing child rights in India, the role of judicial institutions and civil society, and existing enforcement challenges. It further explores practical measures to strengthen child protection, promote accountability, and ensure inclusive development.
