CYBERBULLYING LAWS IN INDIA
Abstract
Rapid proliferation of internet usage and social media usage has resulted in the problem of cyber bullying that poses severe threats to the dignity, privacy and mental health of individuals. In India, the problem of cyber bullying is regulated by a number of provisions from the Information Technology Act, 2000, Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023 and other laws, but there is no particular statute that covers this crime. The current research paper is aimed at analyzing the regulatory framework of the law that regulates the issue of cyber bullying and at identifying problems with its implementation. The paper will evaluate the potential of court decisions and digital intermediaries to address online harassment as well.
