Abstract

Digital life increasingly expects people to stay visible. Studying, working, networking, or even maintaining a social presence now often requires continuous participation online. For women, that visibility rarely comes without consequences. The same platforms that encourage self-expression also expose them to greater scrutiny, misuse of personal information, and forms of abuse that the law often addresses only after the damage has already occurred. This paper explores that contradiction through digital voyeurism, the growing pressure of online exposure, and the limits of existing legal responses under the Information Technology Act, 2000, the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, and the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023. It also draws on international developments to show that this is not a problem confined to one legal system.
