Abstract

In the piece I argue that the SIR voter-roll “cleanup” in Bihar led to mass, opaque deletions that violated statutory safeguards, constitutional voting rights, and principles of fairness, prompting Supreme Court scrutiny.Petitioners argue the ECI exceeded its authority, acted arbitrarily, and risked disenfranchising millions issues now critical as similar exercises are planned across other states. The article is particularly timely because recently the Bihar election has been completed and the controversy over the deletion of the voters name by the ECI became the reason for the chaos in Bihar.
