Abstract

This Blog explores the privacy debates surrounding Meta's recent announcement of a new username feature for WhatsApp users. Prior to its release, the government has reportedly issued a notice to pause the roll-out. The Blog explores the reasoning behind the government's notice and concerns, as well as the company's position in this matter. It revisits the Digital Privacy's legal framework in India and highlights the need to strike a balance so that regulatory measures may be applied wherever required for user security without posing any hindrance to the positive technological innovations.
