Abstract

The decision in Harish Rana v. Union of India marks a significant development in Indian constitutional jurisprudence on the right to die with dignity. This article analyses the Supreme Court's recognition of passive euthanasia and its clarification that clinically assisted nutrition and hydration constitute medical treatment capable of withdrawal in irreversible cases. It examines the judgment from constitutional, ethical, and human rights perspectives and highlights its contribution to Article 21 jurisprudence, patient autonomy, and end-of-life decision-making in India.
