Abstract

This Case Commentary discusses the M.C. Mehta v. Union of India Case (1986), prominently known as the Oleum Gas Leak Case, with particular focus on the doctrine of Absolute Liability. The commentary examines the factual background, legal issues, judicial reasoning, and the impact of the judgement, while critically analysing the development of the doctrine and its contribution to Indian environmental jurisprudence.
