The Efficacy of Drug Courts in Reducing Recidivism

Drug courts are specialized court docket programs that target criminal defendants and offenders, juvenile offenders, and parents with pending child welfare cases who have alcohol and other drug dependency problems. These courts seek to reduce recidivism and substance abuse among participants and to increase their likelihood of successful rehabilitation. This research investigates the efficacy of drug courts in reducing recidivism, examining various studies and statistical data, the structure of drug court programs, and the comparative analysis between traditional criminal justice processing and drug court models. The objective of this research was to systematically review quasi-experimental and experimental evaluations of the effectiveness of drug courts in reducing offending.
