Abstract

International trade has evolved into a vital component of the global economy, influencing investment, technology, employment, and economic growth across nations. As businesses increasingly engage in cross-border commerce, international trade laws have become essential for regulating commercial relationships, resolving disputes, and ensuring fair and predictable trade practices. These laws comprise treaties, conventions, and institutional regulations governing the movement of goods, services, and investments across national boundaries. By reducing trade barriers, preventing discriminatory practices, and protecting intellectual property rights, they create a transparent legal framework that facilitates global commerce. Institutions such as the World Trade Organization (WTO), together with regional and bilateral trade agreements, have significantly contributed to the development of a rules-based international trading system. International trade laws strengthen investor confidence, facilitate market access, and support sustainable economic development while enabling governments to regulate trade and protect domestic interests. However, emerging challenges including protectionism, digital trade, geopolitical tensions, and environmental concerns underscore the need for continuous evolution of the international trading framework. This article examines the role of international trade laws in promoting global business and fostering economic development.
