Abstract

The growing use of intelligence in legal research has opened new chances for speed yet it has also sparked worries about how accurate and trustworthy legal authorities are. These worries were highlighted in the case of Pooja Ramesh Singh versus Jammu & Kashmir Bank Ltd. In that case the Supreme Court of India looked at how the National Company Law Tribunal had used fabricated and artificial intelligence‑generated material. The core dispute was about enforcing a guarantee but the Supreme Court’s ruling brought up a wider issue: how can courts stay honest if they rely on fake authorities as legal precedent? This paper looks at the facts of the case the Supreme Court’s reasoning and what it means for lawyers, judges and the whole legal field. It points out the line between using artificial intelligence as a research helper and treating artificial intelligence output as an official source of law. The paper also talks about the duty of lawyers to check citations. The need for courts and tribunals to verify the authenticity of the authorities they see. Even though artificial intelligence can make research faster this paper says that convenience cannot replace careful work or judicial responsibility. The Supreme Court’s decision reaffirms that legal choices must be based on trustworthy sources of law. It also asks questions about fair disciplinary actions and the safeguards that are needed as artificial intelligence grows in law practice. In the end this paper says that while technology can help thinking the responsibility, for the correctness and honesty of legal papers must stay with human professionals.
