Abstract

Women’s rights in India have evolved significantly though judicial activism, constitutional guarantees, government welfare initiatives and progressive legislation. Despite patriarchal traditions in India, legal system has aimed to secure the dignity, equality, and protection for women. It makes sure that women are safeguarded against domestic violence and harassment at workplace and ensure equal opportunities in education and employment. Indian law recognizes women as the equal citizens entitled to freedom and justice. Legal recognition is not sufficient for the women’s rights. Women continue to face challenges like violence, unequal pay, gender discrimination, trafficking, and lack of legal awareness. Understanding women’s rights under Indian law is essential for achieving gender empowerment and justice.
