ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE IN INDIA: IS THE LAW READY FOR THE FUTURE?

Artificial Intelligence is transforming governance, commerce, and everyday life, while simultaneously exposing significant gaps in existing legal frameworks. This article examines whether India's current legal regime is equipped to address emerging challenges such as privacy, algorithmic bias, liability, deepfakes, and AI-driven decision-making. It evaluates the adequacy of existing laws, including the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, and highlights the need for a balanced regulatory approach that promotes innovation while safeguarding fundamental rights. The article concludes that India must develop a comprehensive AI governance framework capable of addressing the legal and ethical complexities of rapidly evolving technologies.
